Introduction
“Now
let me talk more of Egypt for it has a lot of admirable things and
what one sees there is superior to any description it compared to
any other country…”
(Herodotus‘ words):
Anyone who visits Egypt today would find the above quite true in
spite of the fact it was written more than 2,400 years ago. Of course
“Herodotus” was not the first European who visited the
land of the Nile; isolated Greek colonies existed in the Delta since
the 7th century B.C.
Everything we know of the history of ancient Egypt, the succession
of the dynasties and the Pharaohs is mainly due to the ancient historians
of the Greek and the Roman eras. There is also information left
by “the Egyptians “themselves such as the list of the
kings found in the temple of “Abedus”.
